Portobello 100

During summer 2021 Artists from Edgelands Arts worked with communities from the Portobello Estate in Wakefield to explore their memories of the area and create a series of flags depicting views of the Estate to decorate the site of their celebration event - the Portobello Centenary Garden Party - in August 2021.

To finish the flags, images of important people and events from the area since it was built in 1921 have now been placed in the central circle of each flag. Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and commissioned by Portobello Community Forum, people from babies to the elderly have been involved in celebrating the centenary of the Portobello Estate, also known as the Garden Estate.
