RECOLLECTION COLLECTIONS

Wakefield Libraries commissioned Edgelands Arts to work with librarians and library visitors, particularly those living with and caring for people living with dementia, to create unique and personal art works to complement newly refurbished Dementia Friendly spaces in Wakefield libraries .

The project resulted in 3 unique artworks that  map and creatively interpret landscapes and memories of people from three areas in the Wakefield District – Normanton, Featherstone and Sandal. The By You Tapestry in Featherstone Library; Building Normanton mounted in the library's social space; and Down Memory Lane,  created out of tiles painted by the participants that is mounted in the dementia garden at Sandal Library. â€‹

The project, funded by Arts Council through Grants for the Arts, provided creative, inspirational spaces in libraries and high quality arts experiences for older people with dementia. It supported librarians to learn new dementia friendly arts skills and helped develop new Active Minds groups in Normanton and Featherstone.

Due to the resounding success of the first Recollection Collections project, Wakefield Council asked us to work again with older people living with, and caring for people living with, dementia to create 2 new art installations in South Elmsall and Pontefract Libraries in Recollections Collections Part 2
